About NorQuant
NorQuant Technology is a FinTech startup spun out of, and backed by, successful Norwegian mutual fund NorQuant (a Morningstar 5 star-rated fund).
NorQuant Technology’s Product - Prisma
NorQuant Technology’s product is “Prisma”, a fund selection tool for financial advisors, wealth managers and pension managers. It brings in data from major sources such as Morningstar, FactSet and Sustainalytics, and combines it with quantitative financial models, to provide all of the tools and information that a wealth manager needs to select the best possible funds to invest in, while being beautifully simple to use.
Technology Stack
Prisma is hosted in AWS, using Lambda functions, Python, MySQL and Postgres, with a web-based interface developed in TypeScript/Vite.
Team at NorQuant
We’re a small team – the dev team is currently 3, and the CEO, Chief Product Officer and a Quantitative Researcher completes the team, plus we’re hiring a salesperson. We expect to grow lots over the coming year as we bring the product to market. This is a great opportunity to be one of the early team members as we grow an exciting business!
The Role
We’re looking for someone who is delivery-focused, who thrives in a start-up/small team environment, with a can-do attitude, someone who finds solutions, who is prepared to dig in and put in the extra effort when needed to get releases done and deadlines met.
We believe life/work balance is important - this isn’t a 20 hour a day job but sometimes we’ll need you to work late to meet a deadline or do a deployment on a weekend, so if you want to clock in at 9 and leave at 5, this isn’t the role for you - we’re looking for someone to lead the team from the front and set an example about the work ethos needed for the startup to thrive.
Responsibilities
- Line management of a small team of developers (currently 3, expected to grow over the next 18 months)
- Manage the development process – sprint planning, chairing daily standups and sprint planning meeting, tasking the team, tracking progress
- Code reviews, architectural decisions, technical mentoring of the team
- Ensure creation of unit, and other automated, tests as part of the development process
- Hands-on contribution to coding
- Work closely with the Chief Product Officer to groom and prioritize the backlog, estimate strategic enhancements, and deliver against the product roadmap
- Own the AWS cloud estate, perform deployments, ensure least-required-access security levels
Skills, Experience and Profile
Proven experience successfully line managing a small team of developers. Ideally experienced with AWS (Lambda functions, administration, code deployment, platform security and basic DevOps tasks), Python and SQL, with front-end Typescript/Vite a nice-to-have. Needs experience from a SaaS (preferably B2B SaaS) company and therefore experienced with best practices around security, scalability, deployment, uptime, etc. Some financial background would be useful but not mandatory. A financial modeling/quantitative analysis skill set isn’t required but you need to be comfortable managing a team which contains that skill set. Excellent spoken and written English - we're a multi-national team who work together in English.
The key thing we’re looking for is the can-do attitude, proven experience with managing developers, and commercial SaaS experience, so if you don’t quite tick all the other requirements, we’re still happy to chat with you.
We’re also very happy to consider candidates who’ve had more senior roles in larger companies who want a change of pace, to step out of being silo'd, and to get “back to basics” and help grow a smaller firm!
Location & Compensation
NorQuant is headquartered in central Oslo.
The ideal candidate would also be located in Oslo, but we will also consider candidates across Norway and also in Sweden.
For Oslo-based candidates, it is initially an on-site role but as we build a cohesive and productive development team we plan to transition the entire development team to working on a hybrid or remote basis later in the year.
For non-Oslo candidates we will need you to travel into Oslo for a few days every two or three weeks initially, transitioning to a remote basis (with travel to Oslo for team gatherings every few months).
The package is a combination of salary and share options. We’re a small start-up so we’re looking for someone entrepreneurial and invest your time and effort us in return for a generous package of share options, so we all grow together!
