The MPCDF is a competence center of the Max Planck Society. It is involved in the development and optimization of algorithms and applications for high-performance computing, as well as in the design and implementation of solutions for data-intensive projects in collaboration with scientists from the Max Planck Institutes. The MPCDF operates Max Planck supercomputers, computer systems, a cloud platform, and data repositories for various Max Planck Institutes.

The MPCDF maintains an up-to-date infrastructure for data management, including a long-term archive, making it one of the largest such academic sites in Europe.

Job Description

The MPCDF is looking for a System and DevOps Engineer (m/f/div) for Job ID 04/2024.

Activities and Responsibilities

The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in supporting researchers of the Max Planck Society in Research Data Management (RDM). Responsibilities include maintenance of the data infrastructure and contributions to further developments.

Qualification Profile

The applicant should ideally have a degree in an IT-related area, be familiar with modern DevOps procedures, and have experience in operating data-driven services.

Required Skills:

  • Good knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Programming and scripting experience (Python, Bash)
  • Creativity for problem solving under changing conditions
  • Ability to realize concrete solutions
  • Good communication skills (in English and German)

Beneficial Skills:

  • Database administration (PostgreSQL)
  • GitLab and CI knowledge
  • Interest in science and research

Our Offer

The full-time position starts as soon as possible and is initially limited for a period of up to three years, with the possibility of extension to a permanent position. Salary will be based on experience following the German TVöD.
